Do Not Fear

Writer's picture: Sharon JonesSharon Jones

God literally tells us 365 times in His Word not to fear. That's one for every day of the year! I think he's trying to make it clear that we are not to fear.

I was in my kitchen praying the other day and a storm struck up outside out of nowhere. It was loud and booming. The lightening was so close and bright and terrifying. But I wasn't afraid as I stood in the kitchen praying. I remembered how Jesus calmed the storm.

Mark 4:35-41

That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

As I remembered this, I realized that God is the one who created nature. He created weather. He creates the storms. He has authority and command over them, because they are His creation. He is the God who gives and takes away. So He is in full control. That's why we don't have to be afraid. We need to trust God and know that His plans for us are best.

Isaiah 55:8: "My plans aren't your plans, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my plans than your plans"

Honestly, this means that even if His plan is my destruction in a storm, that's His best plan. He's in control. The one who created the storm and the one who gives and takes away.

There has been so much demonic activity on this earth these days. We are getting close to Jesus's return. It's so plainly obvious with all the signs. But we don't need to be afraid. The same way storms are created by God, demons are beings corrupted by sin that are under the authority of God. They can not do anything to His chosen that He does not allow. All creation falls under God's authority.

This is why we don't need to be afraid ever. Everything that comes against us has passed through God's hand first. We might not understand it, but when it comes into His hands, he looks at that trial and He says "yes, I approve of that" and allows it to fall on us, because He has good plans for it. Yes, even being a single parent. Yes, even having a disability. Yes, even losing your spouse or loved one. All of the trials you are facing are something that passed through God's hands and He said "I will make good of that". So we don't have to be afraid. God's plans are better then ours. His ways are higher than ours. He has our best interest in mind for eternal well-being, not just earthly blessing. Trust that God has got you covered. You don't have to be afraid.
