Distracted People

Saved people who get distracted. Have you noticed them? This world is a challenge knowing who to trust and seeing fruit. It’s becoming scarce in this world and it fuels my belief that Jesus will be returning soon. There are many that don’t see it. Yes even Christian people. So I started to ask myself why that is and God reminded me of the parable of the seeds.

Matthew 13:3-9, 18-23Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Whoever has ears, let them hear.”

“Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

The saved people who get distracted. It’s the seeds falling among thorns. It’s like Jesus was talking specifically about this generation. We have such great access to the Holy Spirit, Gods Word, sermons, worship, and direct access to the Father through prayer and yet we are people who are constantly choked out by the worries of the world. Like the rich young ruler who we quietly judge for not giving up everything to follow Jesus, but would we?

If God asked you right now to drop what you are doing on your agenda for today and go serve someone, would you? If the answer is a maybe or a probably or anything except a resounding absolutely yes, we need to question ourselves. I know it is good to work and we justify our plans by saying that we are doing it all as unto the Lord. But I think we need to realize that if we are truly followers of God, we need to be very wary of the many, many thorns in this world and not be distracted from the main point. Our relationship with God is what matters the most. If he asks us for something, be ready. If He wants time with us, spend time with Him. If He has given us a task to do, do it with all your ability for Him. And be aware of the things in this world (they are cunning and deceptive like the devil) that will seek to steal, kill, and destroy.
