What exactly is an abortion? How is it performed? What are the side effects/risks involved? If you don't want to read about the physicalities of abortion (I don't blame you one bit, it is super disgusting) then skip this one and go on to " The Ugly Truth about Abortion".
Ok, well let's start with what exactly is an abortion. Webster's dictionary describes it as follows:
" the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus: induced expulsion of a human fetus. "
Alright, so an abortion is the death and expulsion of a human fetus. Fair enough. So how exactly do they go about the killing and expulsion of a fetus? According to Planned Parenthood's website the most common method of abortion for a pregnancy of 16 weeks gestation and earlier is done by a method called "suction abortion" or "vacuum aspiration". I was going to summarize it in my own words, but found that the entire of Planned Parenthoods description of the procedure is only 3 sentences (Lucky!) so I will put a direct quote here from their website:
"Suction abortion (also called vacuum aspiration) is the most common type of in-clinic abortion. It uses gentle suction to empty your uterus. It’s usually used until about 14-16 weeks after your last period."
Gentle suction is used to empty the uterus. That's amazing. Isn't that amazing? -Modern medicine at it's finest. Here it is ladies and gentlemen, the flip of a switch, quiet as a mouse, the vacuum uses gentle suction to empty your uterus of all unwanted tissue, fluids, bones and brains!- The terminology here is as benign as if you were having a wart removed. You're not killing your baby, you're having your uterus emptied. The truth of what happens is actually quite different.
The doctor has you lie on a table and uses a tool to open your cervix. A vacuum tube is inserted into your uterus. The "fetus" inside is ripped apart by the suction and pulled out through the vacuum hose along with amniotic fluid and placenta. Often there are bits and body parts that are left in tact within the womb. Depending on how far along in gestation the pregnancy was, these parts may have been too big to come through the small tube. The doctor uses a forceps to remove the remaining body parts and left over fluids. Common side effects to this procedure are injury to the uterus or cervix which could cause issues with future pregnancy and even sterilization, hemorrhage, infections and maternal death.
Late term abortion usually requires a little more fenangling. The procedure typically performed for a late term abortion is called and dilation and extraction and is described as: " a surgical abortion procedure used to terminate a pregnancy after 21 weeks of gestation. This procedure is also known as D & X, Intact D & X, Intrauterine Cranial Decompression and Partial Birth Abortion." There are several videos on YouTube of the procedure actually being recorded, but I'm not going to lie, I cannot watch those videos myself. The whole thing is so grotesque and to realize that actual living human beings are capable of performing such a procedure on a fully living, moving, heart beating, viable human child, it just makes me nauseous to think about, much less to watch. If you are interested and have a stronger stomach than me than please go and watch those videos, and if you are considering having a late term abortion then I implore you to watch. You need to fully understand the gravity of the decision that you are considering and the doctors and nurses are not going to tell you the truth of the weight of this procedure.
The truth is that this procedure for Partial Birth Abortion essentially is what it sounds like. The baby is partially birthed before it is killed and disposed of. The doctor uses a forceps to reach inside and grab one of those chubby legs, then pulls the child down to the entrance of the womb. The torso, legs, and arms are "birthed", but before the head can be released from the womb the doctor flips the baby over on his stomach. The doctor sticks a long needle into the base of the babies spine and forces it deep into their neck. The child, now dead, is birthed and disposed of along with the placenta, and other hazmat materials.
Now Cranial Decompression is a slightly less outside the womb than partial birth, but is equally as disturbing. Doctors use a weighted speculum to open the cervix. They dilate the mother and use a vacuum tube to suck out the amniotic fluid. They reach in using a hard metal clamp and piece by piece pull the fetus apart. The head at this point it is too large to remove easily, so they use the clamp to break it into several smaller pieces and remove those individually.
One less commonly used, and yet equally as despicable methods include induction abortion (in which saline, salt water, urea, or potassium chloride is injected into the amniotic sac) The long and short of that one is that the chemical burns the fetus to death, after which the body naturally "miscarries" the dead fetus. You may hear many abortion survivors talk about their disabilities and struggles that have come from being an abortion survivor. Commonly this is the procedure that they survived through. The chemical burned them, distorted their bodies, caused their brains and limbs to cease developing prematurely, but did not kill them. They were born alive and often disfigured, but alive for God's glory. Check out Melissa Ohden and Clair Cullwell, two survivors who speak out about their lives as abortion suvivors.
There are many different methods of abortion beyond those I have gone into detail about here. I have listed here only the most commonly used with in the US today. If you are interested in finding out more some of the less commonly used methods please refer to Americanpregnancy.org for a comprehensive list.
If you are considering having an abortion I would highly suggest reading some testimonies of mother's who have been through the procedure as well as watching some videos that explain and show the medical procedure such as the one linked below:

And now, finally I would like to add a section about the newest legislation we have pending in the House, born babies who were intended to be aborted. Essentially the way they "abort" a "born alive fetus" is to put the "born alive fetus" (that's a newborn human baby for those who don't understand the abortion industry terminology) into a plastic tub and throw it away with all other hazardous materials used and collected during the procedure. The "born alive fetus" dies (not legally of course) from exposure.
The last thing I would like to add here is that I believe most human beings are bright enough to understand that at the phase of life in which a fetus is birthed and is living, it is no longer a "fetus" (an entirely different species) and at that point it is very difficult to deny the humanity of the newborn baby. I believe this new legislation (for those paying attention) is going to help change the mindsets of some people. I believe there are people out there fighting the good fight for a woman's right to choose abortion, who will not be able to reconcile to themselves how a living newborn infant can be considered non-human after it is born alive, just because the mother doesn't want it. I am very hopeful that this will be an OVERSTEP on the part of the abortion industry, which will cause many people to really rethink what they are fighting for and what they are being led to believe.
