I'd like to take a moment to talk about time. Time changes things, it might be painful or messy, but, sometimes it is exciting and exhilarating. No matter what, change is necessary and even healthy, we grow with change. If you look at a recent picture of yourself and one from when you were five years old, you are undoubtedly going to notice the changes that have occurred over time. So, today I want to look at a few things that have changed over time and one thing that most definitely has not changed.
To begin, did you know that even though it's used everyday by billions of people, prior to 2004, Facebook did not exist? Did you know that TikTok just turned 5 years old? Tv's we're unheard of before 1927, before 1826 there was no such thing as indoor plumbing. Radio came into existence in 1896. All of these things began at different times and drastically changed the lives of the people who had previously not been able to experience them. All of these inventions changed the world forever and time existed before all of them, it continues after them and continues to change life as we know it today. Medicine, technology, science, have all changed countless times since time began.
So, now let's talk about some things that haven't changed. Did you know that the same Bible you read today was first translated into English almost 500 years before indoor plumbing was invented? The word of God endures forever, it is the same as today as it was the day it was written regardless of the influence of time. The world has changed many times since the words were penned but the Bible remains constant and helps to guide us through the changing times. Every generation comes up with new terminology for the same things and adds it's own imprint on the world.
You may have noticed an increase in the changing terms for gender or the number of genders in existence. You may have noticed that things that were once commonly accepted are now offensive and controversial, you may have noticed a growing divide in your community over the notion of right and wrong. Blame is easily thrown around and words are used as weapons, and everyone claims that what they are doing is correct, while their counterparts are woefully mistaken. However, it seems that there is no one standard being used to gauge right and wrong during these verbal sparring matches. It seems as though time keeps changing what is and is not correct and depending on the day or the latest emerging data. So, what gauge can we use to know what's actually correct? Well, why not break out your trusty Bible?
The Bible itself is the inspired word of God, it was written for us by His people. Our world itself proves the Bible is correct, history speaks of the existence of King David. Archeology shows the remains of chariots and armor in the Red Sea. Every single culture that has ever existed tells the story of an epic worldwide flood, the stars themselves speak of a young earth. The list is endless, but these are examples to inspire you to dig deeper and learn more.
So, science and history and literature all show that the Bible is accurate because evidence of the events described within it can be seen in the natural world. The Bible is unchanging because it never needs an update, the terminology never needs to be changed to be more inclusive. What God calls right and wrong have always been the same. His love for us has never failed, His desire for us to know Him and cling to Him has never ended. God offered us salvation in the form of His Son dying on the cross for our sins and that has never and will never change.
Time is necessary and inescapable, change is inevitable, advancements will come and the world will one day look very different than it does even today. Some day your grandchildren may think using a cellphone to make calls or watch videos is outdated because something new has come along and changed things yet again. However, no matter what changes, what medicines emerge, what science says or what the political climate is, God and His word will remain constant.
I pray that you will take comfort in that and cling to Him as Lord and Savior. If you have questions please ask someone that you trust like a parent or guardian or pastor to explain it to you further. No matter what happens and what time changes, keep your eyes on the Lord and I promise you He will never disappoint you.
