So in my last post we discovered that the meaning of life is to praise God. That's all fine and well, but how can you take this knowledge and apply it to your meaningless life? Well truly, the rules God set forth for us are not put there to limit us and keep us caged, they were put there to give us instruction on how to praise God in our daily lives. For example, Sex. Yes, let's talk about sex!
Sex is one of my favorite topics to discuss amongst the Christian communities. It makes people uncomfortable, it's one of those things that Christians (and many other religious folks) were raised to be weary of. It is to the point that with some people having Marital sex seems disgusting because of how indoctrinated they have been about sex. Then there is the worldly perspective, which we all know and are constantly bombarded with in our daily lives. Sex is normal, natural, a beautiful experience with however many partners, male, female, human, animal, adult, child. It's beautiful!
Well so which of these is correct? Let's run this through the lens that we've established, we are here to praise God in everything we do, including sex. So then what does God have to say about sex? The Bible is chalk full of goodness about sex, but 1 Corinthians 7:1-5 sums it up pretty nicely.
Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
So to summarize it is good for a man and a woman to marry one another and have marital sex within those confines, so that neither feels physically deprived of the gift of sex and neither experiences temptation from the devil due to physical urges. If a man is having sex with his wife within the confines of marriage, and she is having sex with her husband within those confines, and neither feels deprived, then sexual sin and temptations shouldn't be an issue in their marriage. But hold on, because I already know some of you are jumping out of your seats to scream at me about how that isn't politically correct and that isn't how we do things these days and how dare I sit here on my high horse and judge you and your life decisions. Hold on just a second ok, because here's the thing, I'M NOT JUDGING YOU and your life decisions. I am running MY DECISIONS through the filter of what praises and glorifies my creator. In that way I am able to conclude in my own life that if I want to be glorifying to my maker, I would follow the rules that he set forth for me.
Let me add to this that the "rules and regulations" that God set in place for me are NOT restrictive the way the world would like you to think they are. But hold on a second, Michelle, you just told me that the only sex that is glorifying to God is married sex between a man and a woman that Christ has put together. That sounds extremely restrictive for those of us who identify as LGBTQ, those of us singles just trying to get through the lonely nights, those of us in a relationship but not technically married. This is true, it does sound very restrictive. Follow me for a second.
If my purpose on this earth is to praise my creator, and the only thing that I can do to praise this glorious maker of mine is give him everything I have, which is my entire meaningless little life, then I would WANT, DESIRE, CRAVE, LUST after my creator. I would want to do whatever I could to please this amazing creator of mine. I would want to give up everything, including my sins, including my free will, including my worldly desires. I would want to give up all of these things in service to my creator, in praise and glory to him.
So this is what I'm saying to you single just having casual sex, to you lesbian or gay person married or unmarried, to you living with a partner whom you haven't married, NO JUDGEMENT, ONLY LOVE. I do believe that you are gay from birth! I do believe that you have lust in your heart! I do believe you are a man who desires to be a woman! I also believe all of that is from our worldly sin nature, and that all of that is something that we can and would DESIRE to put aside in praise to our Maker. If you would meet my Creator, get to know him, get to love him the way he intended you to love him then you would see and understand fully that what he has for you is simple, serve Him. Don't worry about who do I love and who loves me, serve Him. Don't worry about if you are going to be able to pay your rent this month, serve Him. Don't worry about who said what to who when or why and what are they thinking about and will they or wont they treat me some kind of way, serve Him! If the meaning of life is to praise God, then I will praise him, even when it hurts, even when it feels against my nature (because my nature is sin), and even when I wake up exhausted and don't feel like praising him today, I'm still going to praise him! Because that is the only reason I even exist and it is the only thing that will continue when I am gone to be with him in heaven.
